On this episode of LONG STORY SHORT, a former Family Court judge talks about his career move, leaving the bench to head the YMCA of Honolulu. Michael Broderick says it was all about the best way to improve young lives. At age 4, he lost his father in an auto accident. Family has always been an overarching theme for him.

Ramsay Taum

On this episode of LONG STORY SHORT (Tues., March 4, 7:30 pm), Hawaiian cultural expert Ramsay Taum recalls the day when the venerable Richard “Papa” Lyman told him: “You’re not Hawaiian yet.” Ramsay accepted the challenge to learn what it means to be Native Hawaiian. It’s a journey that continues today.

Keone Nunes

For Hawaiian cultural practitioner Keone Nunes, a tattoo is more than skin-deep; it’s a representation of who that person is. On a new LONG STORY SHORT (Tues., Feb 18, 7:30 pm), I’ll talk with Keone about his efforts to learn more about his subjects’ genealogy, personal stories and vision, before settling on a design and putting ink to skin the old-school way. As celebrated as Keone is for his authentic tattoos, it’s only a weekend activity. He has a very different professional career – as a facilitator.
